I would broaden the question and ask “is video important for digital and social marketing?”
The short answer is yes — video is important.
As part of a well rounded content marketing strategy video has a role.
Remember, not one content tactic is ‘the next big thing’.
Yes, YouTube is the 2nd largest search engine and we collectively watch almost 1 hour per person per day.
Focusing all your content marketing efforts into one channel is not a sound business strategy.
The question to ask is how many of my customers are consuming content? Also ask when are they consuming content? Which devices are they consuming? Deeper still what problems, questions, asperations are they trying to answer?
Then ask is video the modality best suited to answer those questions.

Crucially, how would video support your overall business objectives?
Video and content performs many functions. Content can drive brand awareness, it can educate and inform, video helps with SEO, and the content is a conservation starter and helps develop a community.
These are some of the benefits of using video in your marketing mix. The question to ask yourself and your business is how will video marketing (content marketing) help me reach my business goals?
